Most everyone has heard of ballroom dancing but there are plenty who still ask us, Ballroom Dance – What is it Really?  Well, sit back because we’re about to tell you.

Ballroom Dance has a long and rich history, dating back to the 15th century. However, in the 20th century, the art form truly came into its own. With the rise of the entertainment industry, ballroom dancing became increasingly popular as a spectator sport and a form of social dance. Widespread media coverage brought the likes of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers into homes across America and helped create a new generation of dancers. The popularity of ballroom dancing also saw a surge in the number of competitions held. These events provided a platform for dancers to showcase their skills and strut their stuff in front of large audiences. In recent years, ballroom dancing has once again become hugely popular, thanks in part to shows like Dancing with the Stars.

BALLROOM DANCE for COMPETITION and FUN!

Ballroom dancing is a form of partner dancing that originated in the Western world. It is perfect for couples who want to learn to dance together and those who enjoy dancing with a partner. Ballroom dancing is a great way to exercise, as it requires cardiovascular fitness and coordination. While many think of ballroom dancing as slow and graceful, it can be pretty energetic. You may have heard of high-energy dances, including the tango, foxtrot, and cha-cha. Each type of dance has its own set of steps and movements. Learning ballroom dance can be a fun and rewarding experience.

When it comes to competition dance, there are two styles, International and American. The International style is taught and danced across the world. It includes standard dances such as the Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, and Quickstep. These classic dances are characterized by control and precision in movements, and couples remain in a closed hold stance. Latin Dances include the Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive and are characterized by a much more rhythmic and energetic style. The American style, or North American style, is specific to the United States and Canada. This style includes Smooth Dances like the Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Viennese Waltz, where partners are allowed to let go of each other during the dance, as opposed to the closed hold style. The Rhythmic Dances are similar to Latin Dances but are more open-ended or interpretive. These include Cha-Cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero, and Mambo.
